Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need
Program Description
The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program provides fellowships through graduate academic departments, programs, and units of institutions of higher education to graduate students of superior ability who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest possible degree available in their field of study.
General Program Requirements
Any academic department, program or unit of an institution of higher education that offers a program of post baccalaureate study leading to a graduate degree in an area of national need, as designated by the Secretary.
Grantee Institutions of Higher Education will provide GAANN fellowships to students of superior ability who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree in a designated area of national need.
