Native Employment Works Program

Program Description
The purpose of the NEW (Native Employment Work) program is to make work activities available to grantees' designated service populations and service areas. Allowable work activities include (but are not limited to): educational activities; training and job readiness activities (including job skills training, job readiness training, and on-the-job training); and employment activities (including job search, job development and placement, community work experience, and subsidized and unsubsidized public and private sector employment). Allowable supportive and job retention services include transportation, childcare, uniforms/clothing needed for employment, medical services, and other work and family sufficiency related expenses that enable clients to participate in the program. Allowable activities also include labor/job market assessments, job creation, and economic development leading to job creation.

General Program Requirements
Native Employment Works (NEW) grantees are federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native organizations specified in the law.  In order to qualify for this program, you must be within the service population of a NEW grantee.  You must also be unemployed or underemployed, about to become unemployed, or you, your spouse, parents, or children must receive or be eligible to receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
