Special Education Preschool Grants
Program Description
The Special Education Preschool Grants Program provides grants to States to assist them in providing a free appropriate public education to children with disabilities ages 3 through 5 years, and at a State's discretion, to 2-year-old children with disabilities who will reach age three during the school year.
General Program Requirements
Under section 619 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004, only the 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia are eligible grantees for these formula grant funds. State Education Agencies are required to subgrant a statutorily prescribed amount of the state grant to local school districts who then use the funds to provide special education and related services to eligible children with disabilities ages 3, 4, and 5, and at a state's discretion, to eligible 2 year old children with disabilities. States establish eligibility criteria.
