Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits

Program Description
These benefits are paid to people who have earned enough Social Security credits and who are unable to work because of a disability that has lasted or will last for at least 12 months or end in death.

General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must have a disability that prevents you from doing substantial gainful work activity and has lasted or is expected to last 12 months or end in death, you must be younger than 67 years of age, and you must have worked and paid U.S. Social Security taxes.
