Program Description
These are benefits paid to the surviving divorced spouse of a worker who had earned enough Social Security credits.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be divorced from a deceased spouse who worked and paid US Social Security taxes, your marriage must have lasted for at least 10 years before the date of the divorce became final, and you must be unmarried, unless the marriage can be disregarded and either be over the age of 59 years, or over the age of 49 years and have a disability that prevents you from performing significant work and is expected to last at least 12 months or end in death.
