VA -Veterans Pension for Non-Service Connected Disability
Program Description
The Veterans' Pension for Non-Service Connected Disability is a benefit paid to wartime veterans with limited income who are no longer able to work.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be permanently and totally disabled or have reached the age of 65. Income limits apply.
Effective December 1, 2006, the income limit for a veteran without a spouse or other dependents is $ 10,929. Higher income limits may apply if you have dependents or are severely disabled. If your medical expenses are high, they may help to offset your countable income.
Your discharge from service must have been under conditions that were not dishonorable, and you must have served on active duty at least 90 days with at least one day of wartime service.
Generally, if you enlisted after September 7, 1980, you must have served at least 24 months or the full period for which you were called or ordered to active duty.
National Guard and Reserve members who were activated for federal military service and later separated are considered to be veterans. In most cases, these veterans need not have served 24 months.
Commissioned Officers of the Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are considered to be active duty members and veterans, once discharged.
