Food Stamps: Your Path to a Promising Career
Did you know that food stamps can land you a good and stable job when you need it? Read on!
Everyone knows that food stamps are a safety net against hunger for millions of low-income Americans who don't have enough money for their food expenses. But are you aware that these same stamps can give you the necessary training for a job that can help stabilize your finances in the long run?
In May 2002, President George W. Bush launched the Food Stamp Employment and Training Program, which requires each state to give food stamp recipients a chance to avail of employment and job training opportunities. The program – which is implemented by the Department of Agriculture – seeks to give low-income individuals a chance to be gainfully employed in stable and fulfilling jobs.
The training outlined in the program will cover some useful services for those who have a hard time looking for jobs, such as an individual assessment of professional strengths and weaknesses, an Employment Plan which can boost an individual's skills in preparation for a particular job, and even High School or short-term vocational training.
The program is administered in every state by a WorkForce Center, a community action agency, or other employment and training providers. To learn more about qualification rules and other relevant details, contact your local Food Stamp program office, or check with the USDA Food and Nutrition Service in Alexandria, VA.
