Free Breakfast for Your Kid!

The USDA's School Breakfast Program offers free breakfast meals to low-income students all over America.

When everybody's rushing around in the morning to get ready for work or school, there's hardly any time left to sit down and enjoy a hearty breakfast. But for some American families, preparing breakfast doesn't just involve a lot of time – it requires a lot of expense, too. With food prices soaring and living expenses going off the charts, whipping up a nutritious meal for the whole family isn't so easy, especially if you're already working with a tight budget.

Still, it's hard to ignore what health experts have to say about breakfast, which is tagged as the most important meal of the day. Not only does this meal keep you stocked with the energy you need to get through the hours ahead, but it can also help keep your mental faculties in tiptop shape. In fact, studies have shown that kids who skip this meal perform poorly beside their peers who have eaten breakfast before going to school. But how can you make sure that your kid is getting all the nutrition he needs when your income can hardly afford it?

With the USDA's School Breakfast Program, you won't have to worry about giving your child his most crucial meal of the day! The School Breakfast Program is being run in public and nonprofit private schools all over the country, serving students from pre-school to high school. Some private child care centers even participate in this program, so your child is well-fed while you're away at work. Through the program, eligible kids get breakfasts that are rich in nutritional value. Best of all, the meals are either for free or are sold at reduce prices!

The program is administered federally by the Food and Nutrition Service, and is managed in every state by State education agencies. To find out if your child is qualified for free breakfasts, or to get a list of schools that participate in the School Breakfast Program, please contact the U.S. Department of Agriculture or your local state agency responsible for Child Nutrition Programs.
