Hope for Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers
Migrant and seasonal farmworkers need not worry about ensuring their future.
Extreme poverty, dire circumstances, or the desperate need for any kind of employment can drive people from their homeland and into foreign country, where they hope to make enough money to send back to their own families. The picture isn't always rosy, however; many migrant or seasonal workers must confront various difficulties, including being away from their loved ones, earning only a bare minimum for their hard labor, or suddenly being out of a job once the harvest is over.
To help these hardworking folks gain some economic stability, the U.S. Department of Labor established the National Farmworker Jobs Program, an initiative that focuses on providing assistance to migrant and seasonal farmworkers toiling all over the country. Through the program, these laborers can receive special training courses that can prime them up for other careers outside the usual agricultural setting.
Services that are offered under the program include a free skills assessment test, basic education, job training, or even short-term direct assistance. Through the National Farmworker Jobs Program, migrant and seasonal farmworkers are guided towards better job alternatives that will carry them through every season of the year.
If you want to see whether you qualify for this program, or if you'd like to get additional information about the National Farmworker Jobs Program, it's best to check with the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. You can also contact the Division of Seasonal Farmworker Programs in any One-Stop Center in your locality.
