Improve The Future Of Offenders With Job Offers
Provide inmates with work and avoid crime relapses
What does drive a person to commit crime? One major reason is the desperation to fulfill financial needs for oneself or the family. That’s why in order to reduce criminal acts such as theft, a program to help these people get work was instituted.
This program named Prisoner Reentry Incentive, not only targets crime-relapse elimination, but also helps increase employment rate and retention in the country. Announced in the Solicitation for Grant Applications (SGA) and the ETA www.doleta.gov website, applicants compete for the grant by providing a proposal and budget for their target population. Complete information to apply for the grant is provided by the SGA.
These applicants should either be a faith-based organization or community organization that are located in the community or urbanized area where their services are rendered.
Beneficiaries are individuals who are at least 18 years old, must be convicted as an adult and imprisoned in violation of an Act of Congress or State law, and must have never been involved in a violent or sex-related crime. However, waivers may be requested if there were past records of limited violent offenses but was imprisoned because of a non-violent crime. Criminals should be enrolled 180 days after their release from prison or a halfway house.
Other information is available at www.doleta.gov or by contacting the Department of Labor (DOL) at 202-693-3934.
