Literacy Program For Natives And Tribes
Learn the basics and have the chance to build a legacy
Our native population may more often than not, have less opportunities to improve their lot than most. However, there is indeed a way to build a better future or themselves.
The ‘Even Start’ program is geared towards Indian tribes and other tribal organizations. This benefit tries to uplift our Native Americans from poverty and illiteracy. Basically, this program improves education of low-income families from tribal communities.
Projects of integrated family-literacy services include: adult literacy, parenting education, integrated parent-child literacy, and research-based early childhood education. These projects run all year including the summer. Provisions of staff training, child care, and transportation are also available.
Qualified applicants are Native Americans or American Indians, from a federally-recognized community, who are either parents or caregivers. Responsibility of a child or children under 19 years who attend school is an additional requirement.
