Quick Passport Processing
Get your money back if you don't get Expedited Service
The average time for processing passports in the U.S. can take four to six weeks. But if you're willing to pay an extra $60 for faster processing of a new passport application or a renewal, your waiting time is cut short to three weeks. If you request for Expedited Service, the Department of State (DOS) will prioritize your request and may even send your passport through overnight shipping.
Furthernore, if you don't get your passport in time for your scheduled travel, you may be eligible to get a refund from DOS. If you paid the $60 Expedited Service fee and have reason to believe that you didn't get the service that you paid for, you can ask for the refund.
To request for the Expedited Service Fee refund, you will need to write a request with these details:
- Passport number,
- Applicant's name,
- Date and place of birth,
- Mailing address,
- Phone number,
- Approximate date(s) the passport was applied for (if applicable), and
- Approximate date(s) the passport was received (if applicable).
The written request can be emailed to refundsatpassportservices@state.gov. You can also send it via postal mail to this address:
