The Government Can Pay For Your Energy Bills!

Low-income families can get money for their electric bills.

If you're like many Americans trying to eke out a living these days, you must be feeling the crunch because of soaring fuel prices and a poorly performing economy. And it's no laughing matter, whichever way you look at it; everything's becoming more and more expensive, and it's suddenly much harder to keep up with your bills.

Hardest-hit, of course, are those who belong to the low-income bracket of the population. Low-income families often don’t have a choice apart from living from one paycheck to the next, with hardly a dollar saved in the process. In fact, studies have shown that low-income households spend around three-fourths of their monthly income on basic living expenses, which include the rent and utility bills.

It might seem like a bleak picture, but there’s actually a way to get help for paying your bills! A government-backed program called the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) was created to help poorer Americans pay for their energy bills. The program even gives priority to those whose economic burden is larger, particularly if a household includes a young child, a person with disabilities, or a senior citizen.

Financial assistance is made available through the program, as well as emergency financial aid, disaster aid, and counseling. Find out if you qualify and start saving on your electric bills now! Contact the Office of Community Services or your local state agency to get more information on how LIHEAP can help you.
