Work Your Way To Graduation
Fulfill your scholastic dreams through the Work-Study program
Entering college is a big step for both student and parent. Students must overcome the test of passing each course, while parents must overcome the mind-boggling costs. Some have given up after high school because having a better career-edge is just too much for the budget to take. Fortunately, there is now a way around it.
Through the ‘Federal Work-Study (FWS)’ program, a student is assisted in working part-time to pay for college or university education expenses. Jobs are provided by the program that gives the student the option to work either on or off campus.
If the desired work is on campus, working for the school will usually be the case. If off campus, work will be under non-profit or public agencies, which serves the public interest. Depending on school agreements, a student may also be subject to work under for-profit agencies. As much as possible, student-provided jobs should be in line with the applicant’s course.
Salary is leveled with the hourly federal minimum wage or higher, depending on the assigned work, and is paid directly at least once a month. Working hours are determined by considering a student’s class schedule and their number cannot earn more than the total grant amount. The total award depends on the time a student applies, the need level, and the school’s funding level.
About 3,400 institutions composed of colleges and universities are participating in the program. In order to be qualified, you must be a student pursuing a postsecondary degree. Eligibility is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA online at:
